For the newer riders we offer a relaxed riding group (group 4). MotoTT Lines Riders circulate in this group (as well as group 3) wearing hi-viz vests. Our Lines Riders keep an eye on the new riders and offer support, advice, show smooth lines and braking points. If you want you can follow the circulating lines bike for a few laps to learn good approaches to corners and breaking points. If you want specific help please approach our Lines Riders. Don't be shy, we'd love to help! More info on our lines bikes and riders here.

We also offer technical help with bike riding position set-up, suspension set-up, types of tyres and tyre pressures for track riding. Please feel free to ask for advice any time during the day.

Our trackdays sometimes get fully booked a week or two before the day. Spaces are limited and early pre-registration to reserve a place is recommended.

Pit garages with power are available at Taupo and can be pre-booked or arranged on the day with the track operators.

Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

Tongariro North Domain, Tongariro Street, Taupo, Lake Taupo

Saturday 26 November 2016 6:00am – 6:00pm

From its humble beginnings in 1977 with just 26 participants, the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge has grown into NZ’s premier and largest cycling event, with around 8,000 riders from across New Zealand and over 20 countries across the globe taking part each year!

Held on the last Saturday of every November around the pristine and picturesque Lake Taupo, the event will this year celebrate its 40th anniversary on Saturday 26 November 2016.

With a vision of creating inspiring event experiences for everyone, our purpose is to provide cyclists, as well as anyone interested in physical activity, the flexibility to choose a ride distance which best suits their cycling ability and aspiration, providing options to ride either as a team, a group, a family or as an individual.

Accompanying our already popular road and mountain-bike categories, is the introduction of the all new 40km Quarter Lake on road event option (taking in the final 40km of the course), complementing the iconic 160km Round The Lake and the addition of the 80km Half The Lake category in 2014.

Part of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, the Huka Mountain Bike has four event categories, the 85km Huka Challenge, 60km Huka Steamer, 35km Huka Teaser and the Huka XL race for licensed riders.

With incentives for groups and families as well, we want everyone to join the ride and celebrate our 40th anniversary with us.

Triathlon 12th December

Tri Tag Relay. Teams of 3 with each athlete completing a 100m swim, 3.6km bike and 2km run.
Teams will be selected by the organisers on the night. Please register by 5:40pm.
Entry is free for club members, $5 for non-members.

Reggae By The River 31st December

Reggae By the River is back this December and thrilled to announce that UB40, featuring the original members Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, will be headlining!

Reggae By The River is now a regular feature in the Taupo summer season and this year will be the biggest yet. We have moved to New Year’s Eve and the concert will finish in time for fans to walk down to the waterfront and enjoy the spectacular fireworks display from Lake Taupo.

This concert will sell fast! Over 35,000 people enjoyed their popular brand of reggae in January with some shows selling out in hours.

L.A.B (KORA Brothers) will be bringing back their high energy to Reggae By The River. A massive crowd favourite last time and for good reason. Comprised of the popular KORA brothers Brad and Stu, plus talented soulful vocalist and guitarist Joel Shadbolt and Rory Macartney on bass, festival-goers will love their mix of electronica meets soul, funk and blues.

The award-winning Modern Maori Quartet will also join the bill with a special ‘reggae’ set they are developing especially for this show. This suave Maori showband are in the same vein as forebears such as the Quin Tikis and the Howard Morrison Quartet. Made up of accomplished musicians and actors James Tito, Maaka Pohatu, Matariki Whatarau and Francis Kora (bass guitarist and vocalist with major kiwi band KORA), who hail from different corners of Aotearoa and perform together as the core members of MMQ. Together this talented bunch will weave their musical and acting abilities into an evening of hearty humour and sweet music.

New Zealand is one of the most picturesque and photogenic places on earth. A small island nation of less than 4.5 million people. New Zealand is made up of two major land masses, the North Island and the South Island. These islands are divided by a 22km stretch of sea called the Cook Strait, (named after Captain James Cook, the english explorer that discovered New Zealand in 1769.

New Zealand is located in the south west pacific ocean, aproximately 1,500kms southeast of Australia.Due to its relitive remoteness and being water locked, New Zealand is one of the last places on earth to be disovered and settlled.

The country is made up of some of the worlds most spectacular landscapes, from vast mountain ranges to sweeping coastlines, making the perfect background for high budget movies such as Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by Peter Jackson. New Zealand is a natural playground for thrill seekers and adventurers and those who simply just want to visit for the culture and landscapes.
