2018 Epic Swim - 14th Jan

The Epic Swim is a recreational open water swimming event which is held each year on the idyllic setting of Lake Taupo, and is staged in conjunction with the New Zealand Open Water Championships and New Zealand Secondary School Championships.

There are races for all ages and ability levels. From 100m and 500m for children, 1km and 2.5km races for intermediate swimmers, to the 5km and 10km races for the more advanced.

For those who are up for more of a challenge, the Epic Epic race will test your mental and physical abilities. The Epic Epic is a 17.km race combining the 5k, 2.5km, and 10k Epic races.

The 5km and 10km NZ Championships races, the 1km, 2.5km and 5km New Zealand Secondary School Championships races, as well as the Masters 2.5km championship race are also held over the weekend.

Take the opportunity to swim alongside some of New Zealand's best open water swimmers, enjoy the idyllic setting of Lake Taupo and get yourself some excellent practice on the same course as the New Zealand Ironman.

New Zealand is one of the most picturesque and photogenic places on earth. A small island nation of less than 4.5 million people. New Zealand is made up of two major land masses, the North Island and the South Island. These islands are divided by a 22km stretch of sea called the Cook Strait, (named after Captain James Cook, the english explorer that discovered New Zealand in 1769.

New Zealand is located in the south west pacific ocean, aproximately 1,500kms southeast of Australia.Due to its relitive remoteness and being water locked, New Zealand is one of the last places on earth to be disovered and settlled.

The country is made up of some of the worlds most spectacular landscapes, from vast mountain ranges to sweeping coastlines, making the perfect background for high budget movies such as Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by Peter Jackson. New Zealand is a natural playground for thrill seekers and adventurers and those who simply just want to visit for the culture and landscapes.
