NRM 3 Day Event - Horse Trials - 13th May
The NRM 3 Day Event is the pinnacle of New Zealand's eventing season. Riders and horses from all over New Zealand will be competing to win the National titles.
The first phase of the event is the dressage competition, which tests the horses' balance, rhythm, suppleness, and most importantly, obedience of the horse and its harmony with the rider. The challenge is to demonstrate that a supremely fit horse, capable of completing the cross country phase on time, also has the training to perform in a graceful, relaxed and precise manner.
Saturday is the exciting day - cross country time! The fences are huge, the water jumps challenging and to get over the jumps and around the course in the required time means that riders will be going as fast as they can.
Showjumping is the last phase on the Sunday, but all combinations still in the competition at this point must past a final veterinary check before being allowed to continue. This is held first thing on Sunday morning and then the showjumping starts. Horses are tired and it is quite an effort to jump around the showjumping course clear. Normally titles are decided in the showjumping arena and one rail or one time fault can mean the difference between a win and a going home with a minor placing.
There are food and trade stands at the event, so you can get your refreshments at the event.
There is a small cover charge on Saturday only. $5 per vehicle or a gold coin donation per person.

New Zealand is located in the south west pacific ocean, aproximately 1,500kms southeast of Australia.Due to its relitive remoteness and being water locked, New Zealand is one of the last places on earth to be disovered and settlled.
The country is made up of some of the worlds most spectacular landscapes, from vast mountain ranges to sweeping coastlines, making the perfect background for high budget movies such as Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by Peter Jackson. New Zealand is a natural playground for thrill seekers and adventurers and those who simply just want to visit for the culture and landscapes.
