Whats on in Taupo this month

Taupo Market - 9th June

The Taupo Market - every Saturday* - morning, rain or shine, ever-changing – with lots of regular favourites.

‘Volcanic’ coffee, pies and fries, pastries and juice, fresh fruit and veggies, free range eggs and micro greens, plants, trees and seedlings, wood carvings, wind chimes, crazy pots and painted garden panels, jewellery, necklaces, bracelets and tattoos, greeting cards, paintings and photography, knitting and sewing for all ages and the family pet - more, more, more.

New Orleans Buffet - 9th June

Southern food is soul food. Slow cooked smoked beef brisket smothered in a smokey BBQ sauce, hearty seafood chowder with homemade corn bread, waffles from the live station with dollops of ice cream & salted caramel cheesecake.

This special buffet is the brainchild of one of our fantastic chefs, Boipelo Sebate, who spent a year in the kitchen of the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta. During her time she had the privilege to work with a number of incredible Southern Chefs and learnt some amazing Southern cooking techniques and recipes. Now she is bringing them to you right here in Taupo.

Feed your soul and experience an all-you-can-eat New Orleans Buffet this Saturday. Available for a limited period only – so come here while it lasts.

Raw & Nut-Free Workshop - 10th June

Many raw recipes can be quite nut heavy, to the frustration of people with nut allergies. In this workshop we'll discuss interesting, tasty ways to create raw nut-free dishes, as well as nut-free sweets. We will be using activated seeds in this workshop, but also give alternatives to seeds too.

You will receive a recipe booklet with all recipes covered in the workshop and our workshops are always packed with lots of tips and ideas.

This is a 3-hour workshop, because we will be covering sweet and savoury foods and you'll also get a sample plate with everything we make in the workshop.

Straits Chinese Cooking Class - 11th June

Join us for our next cooking class where we learn about Straits Chinese Cuisine.

Straits Chinese cuisine evolved from the early migrants trading and living in Southeast Asia who inter-married with the local Malay women. Their cuisine is a fusion of Chinese and Malay flavours, giving it a unique flavour profile. In our classes we will teach you signature dishes that are hugely popular in Singapore ranging from soups and stews to stir-fries and roasts.

*Special launch offer: Buy 4 lessons and get 5% discount. Limited time only!

NZ Cheese Lovers Dinner - 14th June

Join us for a special dinner dedicated to award winning New Zealand cheese.

Bistro Lago serves exceptional local produce with the best view of the sun setting over Lake Taupo, making it a premium culinary destination. Growing up on a farm created an appreciation of high quality, local produce for Executive Chef Adrian Walker, who is known for his passionate support of local suppliers.

Drawing upon these relationships he's creating a special four-course cheese-inspired menu using award-winning cheese including Over The Moon.

The four course menu will be matched to wines from Martinborough Vineyard and/or craft beers from Emerson's.

Place at the table are limited so get some friends together and book now!

To wet your appetite here's the menu:

New Zealand is one of the most picturesque and photogenic places on earth. A small island nation of less than 4.5 million people. New Zealand is made up of two major land masses, the North Island and the South Island. These islands are divided by a 22km stretch of sea called the Cook Strait, (named after Captain James Cook, the english explorer that discovered New Zealand in 1769.

New Zealand is located in the south west pacific ocean, aproximately 1,500kms southeast of Australia.Due to its relitive remoteness and being water locked, New Zealand is one of the last places on earth to be disovered and settlled.

The country is made up of some of the worlds most spectacular landscapes, from vast mountain ranges to sweeping coastlines, making the perfect background for high budget movies such as Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by Peter Jackson. New Zealand is a natural playground for thrill seekers and adventurers and those who simply just want to visit for the culture and landscapes.
